A traffic stop south of Dubuque yielded more than 15 pounds of marijuana from an accompanying vehicle. The Telegaph Herald reports that 28-year-old Miguel Lopez of Oskaloosa and 35-year-old James Singleton III of Dubuque were traveling on U.S. 52, with Lopez’s vehicle following Singleton’s vehicle at a very close and unsafe distance. When Deputies initiated a traffic stop of the vehicles, Singleton’s vehicle stopped, but Lopez’s vehicle began to accelerate toward an occupied patrol vehicle and aggressively swerved at the driver’s side. Lopez’s vehicle came within inches of striking the patrol vehicle. A search of the trunk of Singleton’s vehicle yielded 15.45 pounds of marijuana and 9.6 pounds of THC gummies and vape cartridges. Investigators also found 22 receipts from marijuana dispensaries in Michigan that labeled Lopez as the customer. Singleton told authorities he drove to Chicago to pick up marijuana for a party he was going to host in Galena. Singleton denied knowing or traveling with Lopez. Lopez was arrested at the scene on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and assault on persons in certain occupations while using a weapon. Singleton III, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
