Strawberry Point Man Faces Multiple Charges after Investigation into Lost Funds

A Strawberry Point man faces multiple charges after an investigation into allegations involving theft, firearms, and Iowa Lottery violations. The investigation began in April of this year, after the Strawberry Point Chamber and Economic Development Club reported missing cash proceeds from the 2025 Strawberry Days festival. After an investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that 33-year-old Luke Dement of Strawberry Point had stolen funds from the 2025 Strawberry Days festival, to be used for personal gain. Deputies also uncovered fraudulent sales and theft of firearms from a local business where Dement had been employed, and Iowa Lottery violations. On July 24, authorities arrested Dement on charges of Theft in the Second Degree, Forgery or Theft of LotteryTickets and Fraudulent Purchase of Firearms/Ammunition, all Class D Felonies. Following his initial appearance, Dement was released from custody on an appearance bond.
