The boys state golf tournaments concluded yesterday. In class 2A, Beckman Catholic sophomore Jake Wegmann tied for 34th place out of 83 players with a two-day total of 163. West Marshall junior Hunter Polley won the individual title with 4-under 140, while Columbus Catholic won the 2A team title with a total score of 600. In 3A, West Delaware finished in 7th place out of 12 teams with a 610. Hawk senior Aidan Zirtzman led the team with a +2 146, good for at 9th place finish. Waverly-Shell Rock and MOC-Floyd Valley tied for the team title at 588, while Nevada sophomore Parker Rodgers won the individual title at -7 for the tournament. The 1A team champion is Boyden-Hull with a score of 618, and the individual champ was Keith Thompson of Hamburg, who shot a +1 145 over the two day tournament. The girls state golf tournaments begin today. 1A is being played at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown, 2A is at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone, the 3A tournament is being hosted by Saddleback Ridge Golf Course in Solon, and 4A is at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City. Locally, Western Dubuque competes in the 4A field, and West Delaware’s Susie Funke is among the individual qualifiers in 3A.

In girls soccer regional semifinals last night, Wahlert Catholic defeated Beckman Catholic 4-2, and Hudson beat Anamosa 8-0. The boys soccer playoffs continue this evening with substate final games. In class 1A, Beckman Catholic plays at Regina Catholic with a 5 pm start. The Blazers and Regals played to a 1-1 draw in their regular season matchup on April 16th. The winner of tonight’s game advances to next week’s state tournament.
