The Chicago Bears' plans to build a new stadium took a shift in tone Wednesday at the NFL's annual meetings. About a year after the team declared its goal to build a stadium south of Soldier Field, team president and CEO Kevin Warren said the Bears are expanding their options to again include Arlington Heights, where the franchise owns property. They had purchased the Arlington International Racecourse in 2021, but in 2023, held off on building a stadium there due to property tax negotiations. In April 2024, the Bears unveiled plans for a domed stadium near Soldier Field that would be privately funded, but there was concern about the burden placed on taxpayers to fund infrastructure around a new stadium, leading to an impasse. In December, the Arlington Heights Board of Trustees approved a tax settlement that would put the Bears’ annual property tax bill at around $3.6 million for a new stadium. While Warren noted the "progress" made with Arlington Heights, he also said that there is more work to be done. Warren said the team’s goal is to be able to “move dirt” in 2025 to begin a stadium project.
