Person Shot During Attempted Jackson County Break-In

A person was shot and injured during an attempted break-in in rural Maquoketa Tuesday. A news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Department states that dispatchers received a 911 call at about 12:15 p.m. from a rural Maquoketa resident "reporting that a person was attempting to break in to their residence." As deputies responded to the scene, "the dropped 911 call was resumed and it was reported that a person had been shot during the incident.” Deputies found that an adult male had been shot several times during an altercation. The man, who is not named in the release, was airlifted to Iowa City for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities said there is not an going safety threat to the community and that further information "will be released when appropriate."
