A Peosta man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to a scheme to claim insurance money for stolen Rolex watches. KCRG-TV reports 33-year-old Bryce Murphy pleaded guilty to Insurance Fraud and Fraudulent Practice. Investigators said Murphy had provided false information to an insurance company, claiming two Rolex watches were stolen from his hotel room while he was at an NFL game. He also provided various documents, including a receipt for the two watches. However, investigators say it was discovered that Murphy had previously filed a similar claim in 2019 with a different insurance company, and received a payout of nearly $10,000 for it. Investigators determined the purchase receipt provided by Murphy had been fabricated, and the Rolex watches were counterfeit. Muphy was arrested on June 12, 2023. After his guilty plea, Murphy received the sentence of 10 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay $2,395 in fines.
