Peosta Man Injured in Semi-Tractor Trailer Crash Wednesday Evening Near Galena

A Peosta man was injured in a semi-tractor trailer crash Wednesday evening East of Galena. According to a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department crash report, authorities were already in the area around 8 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 20 East of Galena due to multiple vehicles stuck on the road because of icy conditions. Deputies spotted a semi driven by 35-year-old Roman Mukhordykh of Palatine, Illinois, traveling too fast for the poor road conditions. They watched Mukhordykh lose control of the truck, cross the center line and enter the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20. Mukhordykh’s truck then collided with the front end of a stopped semi driven by 62-year-old Ronald Lange of Peosta, before rolling onto its side and sliding into a ditch. Lange was transported to Midwest Medical Center in Galena for treatment of his injuries. Mukhordykh was evaluated at the scene but refused medical treatment. He was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and the crash is under investigation.
