NICC to Receive Lowe’s Foundation Grant

Northeast Iowa Community College has received a $420,000 grant from the Lowe's Foundation to expand hands-on training programs in high-demand trades. KIMT reports that this is the first time the Lowe's Foundation has awarded such a grant in Iowa. The funding will support efforts to expand electrical training for students across Northeast Iowa's 5,000-square-mile service area, where distance can be a barrier to workforce education. The grant will also support a new electrical lab and hands-on training equipment. It aims to create more accessible pathways to industry-recognized credentials through certificates, continuing education and degree programs while helping meet growing regional demand for electricians. The grants help address America's critical skilled trades workforce shortage by expanding training in high-demand fields, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and construction.
