Marion Man Injured in Head on Collision with Jackknifed Semi

A Marion man was injured in a head on collision with a jackknifed semi near Coggon this morning. According to a news release, at about 9:10 am, Linn County Sheriff Deputies along with other emergency crews were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 13 just north of Heatons Valley Road, South of Coggon.
The release states that a semi-truck and trailer, driven by 37-year-old Bashir Chaudry of Ontario, Cananda, was traveling northbound on Highway 13 when a strong gust of wind caused him to jackknife into oncoming traffic. That caused a head on collision with a southbound Ford F150, driven by 60-year-old Daniel Burlage of Marion. Burlage was trapped in the pickup and had to be extricated by fire crews. Burlage was transported by Center Point Ambulance to Mercy Hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Chaudry was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Highway Patrol.
