Jones County Man Killed in Crash after Leading Law Enforcement on Chase in Linn County

Authorities have released the name of a Jones County man who was killed after leading law enforcement on a chase in Linn County Saturday night. A press release from the Linn County Sheriff's Department states that just before 9:15pm a Linn County Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at Williams Blvd and East Southview Road. The vehicle, driven by 34-year-old Robert Oppenheimer of Olin, failed to stop and led the deputy on a pursuit. The pursuit continued southbound on Lefebure Road where Oppenheimer failed to negotiate the T-intersection with Wright Brothers Blvd and left the roadway coming to rest in the south ditch. Despite life saving measures by deputies and other emergency providers, Oppenheimer, the only occupant of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
