Farley Couple dies after Being Injured in Auto Accident

A Farley couple has died after an auto accident earlier this month. On March 1, at about 7:50 AM, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of the Hwy 20 eastbound off ramp and Sundown Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries. A news release states the driver, 85-year-old Marvin Jarding of Farley, was travelling eastbound on Hwy 20. He exited onto the eastbound off-ramp at Peosta, but failed to stop at the Sundown Road intersection, traveling straight across the intersection and into the ditch on the south side of the east bound on-ramp. The vehicle struck several large pieces of concrete at the bottom of the embankment. Marvin and a passenger in the vehicle, 81-year-old Mary Jarding, were both injured in the accident and transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque for treatment. Mary was then transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City where she succumbed to her injuries on March 1st. Marvin was being treated at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque until March 7th, when he also died. The accident remains under Investigation.
