An electrical fire displaced multiple families in Central City Wednesday night. KCRG reports what tenants did before getting out of their home prevented the fire from affecting the entire complex. The 3rd Fire District said in a Facebook post that it got a call around 9:30 p.m. for smoke coming out of outlets and a hot wall. This was inside an apartment building on the 50 block of West Broadway Street in Central City. Fire crews found the outlet had extinguished itself because the tenants had turned off the breakers for the apartment before escaping. An investigation revealed the outlets were getting much hotter than they should. Alliant Energy was called out to remove the meters for all apartments as crews will inspect them to make sure they’re safe.
