A Dubuque County man was sentenced to a year in a jail after authorities say he caused a serious crash while driving under the influence. The Telegraph Herald reports 27-year-old Kyle Kutsch, recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to operating while intoxicated. The charge stemmed from a crash on November 5th, 2023, when Kutsch was driving in the 18000 block of Balltown Road between Sherrill and Balltown around 2:25 a.m. when he crossed the center line and struck the vehicle of 47-year-old Rebecca Scherbring of Dubuque, who was traveling in the opposite direction. Scherbring and Kutsch both were taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash. Both necessitated transfer to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for advanced treatment. Kutsch was credited with time served. Per the sentence, Kutsch must pay $20,707 in restitution to Scherbring.
