A former Dubuque County educator has announced her candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives. For Carolyn Wiezorek, a Democrat from rural Dubuque County, this will be a second bid for the District 65 seat, currently held by Republican Shannon Lundgren. Wiezorek is a former principal at Our Lady Guadalupe Elementary School in Dubuque, Iowa’s first Spanish immersion school. Despite falling short in her 2024 bid for the District 65 seat, Wiezorek says that she continued to work on behalf of residents in that district. Wiezorek spent decades in the Dubuque Community and Holy Family School Districts. She also served as an associate professor of education at Clarke University. Wiezorek states that in addition to education, her priorities include clean water and Iowa’s rising cancer rates, which she has seen firsthand in the residents of Dubuque County.
