Central Community School District Officials have Selected New Superintendent

Central Community School District officials have selected a new superintendent. According to an online announcement, Micah Gearhart will lead the Central district, pending release of his contract by the North Fayette Valley district, where he currently serves as middle school principal. He is expected to join the Central district on September 15th. Gearhart replaces Nicholas Trenkamp, who resigned in early August. Trenkamp had been on administrative leave since late March after he wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post that “Big Pharma” companies “promote homosexuality and obesity.” Gearhart holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in educational administration and a superintendent’s endorsement from the University of Northern Iowa. He has previously taught elementary school, life skills and middle school math courses and also has worked as a special education coordinator and curriculum coordinator.
