Several downtown Monticello busnesses were damaged by a fire Saturday. The Monticello Fire Department responded at approximatley 3:40pm to a fire reported at Cliff's TV, located at 213 East 1st Street in Monticello. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the fire was located in the basement in the front of the building. Fire and water damage was contained to Cliff's TV, however, adjacent businesses, including Off the Rocker, Honeybee Boutique, Neighborhood Insurance, and Sarah Hovey Photography all sustained heavy smoke damage. There were also two apartments that sustained smoke damage. No injuries were reported. The Monticello Fire was assisted by Anamosa, Cascade, and Dyersville Fire Departments for mutual aid. Crews were on scene for over four hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
