The bridge connecting Iowa and Illinois at Dubuque will open earlier than planned. An up date from the Iowa Department of Transportation says the Julien Dubuque Bridge will reopen to traffic at approximately 6:00 p.m. Today. That ends the current full closure of the bridge. The DOT states that while the bridge will reopen, construction will continue through late September. On working days, the eastbound lane of U.S. Highway 20 will be closed while crews complete painting and apply concrete sealers to the bridge deck and rail. The eastbound lane will reopen for the evening commute and on non-working days. This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until late September. During weekday eastbound closures, motorists traveling east will continue to need to use an alternate route. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time. The DOT notes that construction schedules and traffic impacts may change based on project progress, weather, and contractor schedules.
