Anamosa Wastewater Treatment Plant Damaged by Fire

The City of Anamosa’s Wastewater Treatment Plant was damaged by fire early Wednesday morning. Police and fire crews responded to a structure fire at the Treatment Plant at about 3:05 a.m. Wednesday. Shortly before the call reporting the fire, Public Utilities employees received an automated warning indicating a blower system malfunction. The fire was confined to the blower room inside the Wastewater Treatment Plant. A city-owned vehicle parked inside the facility was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. The Anamosa fire department quickly extinguished the fire. A malfunctioning blower is suspected to be the cause of the fire, which spread to the unattended vehicle in the same area. No injuries were reported. The Iowa State Fire Marshal, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and contractors were notified.
