Lansing Bridge Across Mississippi to Open Months Ahead of Schedule

The Lansing bridge across the Mississippi River will open months ahead of schedule. The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation shared Monday that the bridge is now set to open on Friday, November 6. The bridge was originally scheduled to reopen in the spring of 2027. The prior Black Hawk bridge was demolished in December of 2025, leaving drivers to either use a car ferry or detour to cross the Mississippi River. Project staff say a concentrated contract team with favorable weather and river conditions is contributing to the early opening. After the bridge opens, there will still be some work outside of the main traffic lanes, including restoring the ferry landing areas and removing the old bridge piers. The Iowa DOT says there should not be any full closures. All work will be done by the spring of 2027.
