A Dubuque man was charged with attempted murder after attacking his roommate with a baseball bat. The Telegraph Herald reports Dubuque police responded at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to a residence on Mount Alpine Street for a report of a physical disturbance involving a baseball bat. When police arrived, 26-year-old John McPoland had left the residence and was walking south along Mount Alpine. McPoland told an officer that he had attempted to kill his roommate, 43-year-old Jesse Foutch, because he was very frustrated. Documents state that McPoland told police that he “had been hearing his deceased father’s voice for the past week, encouraging him to commit violent acts against the people in the home.” McPoland told police he struck Foutch in the head two or three times. McPoland told police he intended to kill Foutch and a third occupant of the residence with a bat and a kitchen knife. The third occupant of the home was not injured. Foutch had “redness and swelling” on his head and was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. McPoland was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
