City of Maquoketa Considering Data Center in its Industrial Park

The city of Maquoketa is considering a data center in its industrial park. The Telegraph Herald reports Maquoketa’s city manager told community members at a City Council meeting Monday, that city leaders started talking about a potential data center in March — and made those plans public this week. Community members at a City Council meeting Monday were informed the project for the small to mid-sized data center is in a “pre-development” stage. It could be a few years before a data center is constructed, but Maquoketa does not need to change its existing zoning rules to build the proposed 46-acre project. While other area cities are creating their own data center ordinances, such as Cascade, Peosta and Dubuque, Maquoketa does not plan to do so. The city is also not considering a moratorium on data center development.
