Dubuque Firefighter Injured Fighting Residential Fire

A Dubuque firefighter was injured when crews responded to a house fire Thursday morning. According to the Dubuque Fire Department, at 9:20 a.m., firefighters were called to a residential structure fire at 71 Lois Street. Crews found visible black smoke coming from an exterior basement access door. Upon entering the home, crews encountered heavy smoke and found a fire involving materials stored in the basement. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the home to remove smoke. The fire was contained to the area where it started. No other injuries were reported. One firefighter was taken from the scene for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. The Fire Department estimates property and contents loss at $8,000.
