The start of a Julien Dubuque Bridge repair project has been further delayed. The Iowa Department of Transportation has informed Dubuque officials that the start of the repair project will now begin June 15. The bridge maintenance project will focus on repairing joints, painting the steel superstructure, sealing the deck, repairing rails and replacing handrails on the pedestrian walkway. Phase one, now beginning June 15, will see a closure of the eastbound lane of the bridge from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. There is also a possibility of evening and overnight closures, depending on progress. Phase two, expected to start July 6, will see a full closure of both lanes on the bridge for about a month. Phase three, from early August until mid-September, will result in daytime closures of the westbound lane of the bridge. Westbound drivers will be transferred into the eastbound lane, and eastbound traffic be detoured. Like phase one, there is a possibility of evening and overnight closures. During closures, traffic on U.S. 20 will be detoured along U.S. 61/151 across the Dubuque-Wisconsin bridge. Drivers will use Wisconsin 11 and Wisconsin 35 to return to U.S. 20 in East Dubuque.
