Local Effort in National Program Collects over 128 Pounds of Unused Medications

The Dubuque Drug Task Force, in conjunction with area police departments took in over 128 pounds of medications during an annual drug take back event. Saturday, police departments in Asbury, Peosta, Farley, Cascade and Dyersville, participated in the nationwide effort sponsored by the DEA to collect old and unused medications. Items collected included prescription medications, non-prescription medications, vitamins, herbals, supplements, syringes, and other items. A news release states the total weight of medications collected Saturday was 128.2 pounds. Between October of 2025 and April of 2026, over 424 pounds of medication was collected at the drop box located at the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center and drop boxes located in area towns. The items collected will be incinerated at a later date. If you missed the event, drop boxes are located at area police departments and the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office.
