Dyersville Plans 1 Cent Tax Rate Increase

The City of Dyersville plans to raise the property tax levy by one cent. The Dyersville City Council recently held a required special meeting on the proposed property tax levy. The levy rate is set to increase slightly, from $10.26 per $1,000 of assessed value to $10.27. That makes the difference for a property assessed at $100,000 year over year just more than $1. According to the public hearing notice, city officials noted that general operating costs and purchase of assets has increased. City Administrator Mick Michel stated that the one-cent increase was due to changes in the debt service levy as the general fund portion of the levy stayed the same year over year, despite changes in costs within the general fund. In 2025, the council approved a general obligation corporate purpose loan agreement to borrow an amount not to exceed $3.3 million to be used for the rehabilitation of First Avenue West, to pay back a pair of developments and the traffic signal project for the Kwik Star coming to town.
