Man Sentenced to Prison after Stealing Antique Signs Clayton County Gas Station

A Cedar Rapids man was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing antique signs from a Clayton County gas station. Iowa District Court of Clayton County Recently sentenced 46-year-old Andrew Dimmitt after he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of third-degree theft. Court records state that Dimmitt stole 11 antique signs worth $4,900 during a pair of incidents, on September 4 and October 26, from Sears Gas Station in Garber. At least one of the stolen signs was advertised for sale on Facebook Marketplace by an antique collector who had purchased the sign from Dimmitt. Dimmitt was arrested March 5 on a warrant charging second-degree theft. The charge was later changed to third-degree theft with a plea-agreement.
